GOODSMILE RACING with Team UKYO

GOODSMILE RACING with Team UKYO, GT300 class champion of the 2017 SUPER GT series, announced on December 23rd (Sat.) that it will take part in the 47th Summer Endurance “Suzuka 10 Hours Race,” which will take place at Suzuka Circuit on August 24th (Fri.) to 26th (Sun.).

GOODSMILE RACING with Team UKYO is one of the most popular teams in the GT300 class of SUPER GT. The team took part in the Total 24 Hours of Spa in 2017 with its HATSUNE MIKU livery Mercedes AMG GT3. Although it could not finish the race, the team’s performance gave notice of its presence to the race world.

This strong team is the first Japanese team to formally announced its entry in the Suzuka 10 Hours. The driver line-up is the same trio that competed at the above-mentioned Total 24 Hours of Spa, including with Nobuteru Taniguchi and Tatsuya Kataoka, the team’s regular pair for the SUPER GT and Kamui Kobayashi as third driver.

Regarding to the vehicle, the team will run the Mercedes AMG GT3 that they entered in the 24 Hours of Spa and the SUPER GT with. The team currently plans to adopt its HATSUNE MIKU livery for the AMG GT3, but exact details will be released on February 2018.

In addition, the line-up of the team including the team representative, the team manager and the car maintenance crew remains the same as for the SUPER GT. The team is determined to adopt all possible measures to win the Suzuka 10 Hours.

“Today (December 23rd) is the opening date for entries of the Suzuka 10 Hours, so I’m going to be the first to apply,” commented Takanori Aki, the team representative.

“At the 24 Hours of Spa, we realized how high the bar of the world-level racing is. This time, we will be able to compete at Suzuka, which is surely much closer to home (than Spa). Personally, I feel this is a "re-challenge" for us. At the Suzuka 10 Hours, I want to show the world our strength,” he added.

“It is a real pleasure that we can compete at Suzuka with the same team line-up as at Spa,” Aki concluded.

“I am truly delighted to be able to participate again in the race as a member of GOODSMILE RACING. Since we ended this year's 24 Hours of Spa unsatisfactorily, I would like to make this Suzuka 10 Hours a comeback challenge with Taniguchi and Kataoka,” team’s third driver, Kamui Kobayashi commented with enthusiasm.

“I would like to thank everybody in GOODSMILE RACING, beginning with Mr. Aki, the representative of the team who gave me this opportunity. Since the GSR is the defending champion team of the GT300 class of SUPER GT, I will do my best and trying not to be a hindrance to the team. Please come to the circuit to cheer for us,” added Kobayashi.
